Steven Johnson MD grew up in Illinois and attended the Southern Illinois School of Medicine. After finishing an internship in Grand Rapids Michigan he attended the prestigious University of Michigan Ophthalmology residency program. This was followed by fellowship subspecialty training in Retina and Vitreous in San Francisco. From there he moved to San Luis Obispo where he and his wife Muffy have raised four wonderful boys and he continues to enjoy a thriving state of the art ophthalmology practice.
Dr. Johnson was the first fellowship trained retina specialist on the central coast of California. He founded Retina Specialists of the Central Coast in 2008.
He has an interest in third world ophthalmology and has spent a month at the Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai India as well as in Peru and Uganda.
The Central Coast has been a perfect place to live and raise his sons, all of whom outperform him on surfboards and mountain bikes. Dr. Johnson is dedicated to providing the most advanced treatments available and keeps current by visiting the top specialists around the country as well as attending continuing medical education events. He promises to give honest opinions of treatment options and welcomes second opinions. Offering the latest and best in eye care is his passion and love.
